Bernie says he is pro-war. I believe him.

Bernie Sanders Rejects
Syria No-Fly Zone, Backs Airstrikes

“I support President Obama’s effort to combat the Islamic State in Syria,” he said, “while at the same time supporting those in Syria trying to overthrow the brutal Bashar Assad dictatorship.”

The United States has been bombing targets in Syria, including the Islamic State and al-Qaida affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra, since September 2014. Those strikes have reportedly killed at least 1200 civilians. Bernie is OK with this.

“I’m among millions of supporters who are enthusiastic about the clarity of Sanders’ positions in taking on Wall Street, corporate power and economic inequality,” Norman Solomon, a Democratic activist and executive director of the Institute for Public Accuracy, said in a recent article for Al Jazeera America.  “But we also need Sanders to be clear about what he would do as commander-in-chief of the world’s leading military power.”
What Sanders has said has largely disappointed peace activists like Solomon.  resist

In August of 2016, Bernie Sanders said he would not end U.S. drone strikes in countries such as Pakistan and Hemen, arguing such strikes must be deployed “selectively and effectively.”

Viva Viggo Mortensen:

Bernie Sanders just as hawkish as Hillary Clinton

politico.com.1.
Sanders, who voted against the war in Iraq, nevertheless has a history of supporting war during his time in the senate.

He supported President Bill Clinton’s 1999 war in Kosovo, he voted multiple times to fund the Iraq War, he supports the continued occupation of Afghanistan, and he supports Israel’s military occupation of Palestine. He also supported President Obama’s unconscienable drone campaign.

…Sanders failed to make any public statements regarding the United States’ bombing of a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Afghanistan, which killed 20 civilians and injured another 37.  Bernie Sanders has come under fire from jill2progressives for his support of Saudi Arabia, which is leading a war crime-riddled campaign in Yemen, supports a brand of radical extremism called Wahhabism, and is guilty of numerous human rights abuses domestically.”

Bernie will guarantee eight more years of war:

“Sanders supported the corporatist military hawk Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general presidential election. Sanders stirs up legitimate progressive energy and popular anger and then “funnels it back into a dead political system,” Hedges observes. Sanders fails to confront the American Empire and military state, and, Hedges adds, has unforgivably “abandoned the Palestinians and given carte blanche to Israel.”

…During the 1990s, the not-so “independent” Congressman Sanders voted for and/or otherwise supported:

* Economic sanctions that killed more than a million Iraqi civilians

* Every U.S. bombing of Iraq from 1992 on

* The sending of U.S. military units to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to threaten Iraq because “we cannot tolerate aggression”

* The objectively racist and mass-incarcerationist Federal Crime bill.

* Every US intervention since elected to Congress–Iraq, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Liberia, Zaire (Congo), Albania, Sudan, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia.

Many of Sanders’ liberal fans might be surprised to learn that he voted for a National Rifle Association (NRA)-supported bill to restrict lawsuits against gun manufacturers and against the Brady Bill.

The great Socialist Party presidential candidate Eugene Debs (whose poster hangs in Sanders’ Senate office) would not be impressed.”

Sanders has a solid, pro-war track record for the past 20 years. He surrendered.
Bernie accepts spending trillions on unnecessary wars as a given.

We are spending six trillion on war because that is Bernie Sanders “vision.”
He just does not “get it.”  It will take 18 trillion to fix our infrastruture, implement universal single payer, rebuild America and create jobs.  We cannot have peace and progress if Bernie clings to wars of choice and profiteering, but Bernie won’t budge.

“Sanders voted in 2001 for the Authorization for the Use of Military Force, the congressional resolution that was the basis of George Bush’s invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and the launching of the “war on terror,” and which was still cited by Barack Obama as the legal justification for drone-missile assassinations in Pakistan, Yemen and other countries. He regularly voted for military appropriations bills, required to fund the ongoing war in Iraq Sanders claimed to oppose.

quotesgram.comIn the sphere of world trade, Sanders masks a strident chauvinism with “human rights” rhetoric, particularly with respect to China. In 1992 he co-sponsored a bill, first proposed by Nancy Pelosi, and later vetoed by George H.W. Bush, attempting to restrict the trade status of China due to its human rights record. As always, the supreme “human right” was the right of American corporations to scour the globe in source of profit; one of the benchmarks that China would have been required to meet was to provide “United States exporters fair access to Chinese markets, including lowering tariffs, removing nontariff barriers, and increasing the purchase of United States goods and services.”

Sanders’ stance on immigration is entirely in line with right-wing efforts to scapegoat millions of impoverished and exploited Hispanic workers for the falling living standards of American working class. He has repeatedly introduced bills in Congress calling for the suspension of the federal visa program under the guise of protecting American jobs. For his efforts, he has earned the admiration of noted anti-immigrant racist and talk show host Lou Dobbs, who called him “one of the few straight talkers in Congress.”

On the massive NSA spying first revealed by Edward Snowden, Sanders has staked out a position virtually indistinguishable from the public position of Barack Obama, “welcoming” the opportunity to “discuss” government spying while demanding that Snowden be punished for revealing it. “The information disclosed by Edward Snowden has been extremely important,” Sanders said in early 2014. “On the other hand, there is no debate that Mr. Snowden violated an oath and committed a crime,” for which he called only for a “lenient” sentence. Last July, Sanders co-sponsored the Obama-supported USA FREEDOM Act in the Senate, which would regularize NSA spying under the guise of regulating it.

oweug[a…(Bernie’s) role in the campaign will be use his reputation as a politician of the “left” to disguise the ever more right-wing orientation of the Democratic Party: its abandonment of even a nominal commitment to social reform, its embrace of war, assassination, mass surveillance and an increasingly dictatorial role for the American imperialist state, both internationally and at home.

  1. Yes, yes, yes, so true. But I have friends–both actual and cyber–who insist that BS (well, I didn’t make up those in initials) is “anti-war.” Or they argue he’s the best of the dems (that’s setting the bar pretty low), and “better than Hillary.” I think that’s like saying Ted Bundy is better than Attila the Hun because he didn’t kill as many. As for Norman Solomon, he came out for Obama the last time, even though O. proved to be anything but anti-war. I trust him about as far as I think MoveOn.org is a legitimate pacifist group and not a shill for the democratic party.

    1. The lesser evil theory has been debunked. Obama took us from 4 wars to 27 and declared himsef king. He claims the power to kill at will without any accountability and has elinimated the rule of law and suspended habeas corpus. And Bernie would continue these crimes in our name.
