Cashier: $14.52 per hour

Retail Sales Associate: $16.13 per hour

Replenishment Associate: $16.62 per hour

Warehouse Worker: $20.11 per hour

Living wage is $25.02 per hour

An analysis of the living wage (as calculated in December 2022 and reflecting a compensation being offered to an individual in 2023), compiling geographically specific expenditure data for food, childcare, health care, housing, transportation, and other necessities, finds that: The living wage in the United States is $25.02 per hour, or $104,077.70 per year in 2022, before taxes for a family of four (two working adults, two children), compared to $24.16, or $100,498.60 in 2021.

If it had been indexed to the consumer price index since 1968, the minimum wage would have been $10.15 in 2019.2 If it had kept pace with worker productivity and been adjusted for inflation, it would have been $24 in 2020.3

Average health insurance premiums in 2021 were $7,739 for single coverage and $22,221 for family coverage.4 People making the minimum wage cannot afford health insurance. They must rely on Obamacare subsidies or free health clinics. For these reasons, many people want the minimum wage raised.

The federal minimum wage has been $7.25 per hour since July 24, 2009.
