War is not the answer…

Election year nonsense can be very painful.

kingtrumpElection year nonsense can be very painful.
The Republican party bragged about wanting to spend trillions killing millions in avoidable wars for billionaires… and the Democratic party lied about wanting to spend trillions killing millions in avoidable wars for billionaires.

With Trump, Clinton or Obama… this was a losing proposition.

81-kpqrfqzl-_sl1500_

We had two actual choices:

One choice was Trump or Clinton for wars on the road to ruin

The other choice was Dr. Jill Stein and The Green New Deal: securing the peace and investing in people, progress and the planet.

War was not the answer.

angrytrump

But mainstream media represented the corporate elite and gave us entertainment instead of hard news.

So we got Trumped.

Now that the deed is done, we can’t pretend anymore.
We can secure the peace and rebuild the nation or let the bottom fall out.

Time to organize.   Si se puede.

American Cops: Armed & Dangerous

Jamar Clark, 11/15/15 Minneapolis, MN:

Two Minneapolis police officers shot Clark, claiming he “interfered” with emergency responders helping an assault victim. Activists and witnesses maintain that Clark was unarmed and handcuffed when he was shot.

No officers have been charged with a crime for killing Jamar.

Despite public protests, occupations, direct action, and increased public scrutiny, U.S. police killed more people in 2015 than in 2014. While numbers vary from source to source  — the website killedbypolice.net found police have killed 1,186 people in 2015 (the U.S. government currently does not track how many people are killed in police encounters.)

The data from killedbypolice.net show that white people are the largest group of killed by the police. But when taken together, the number of people of color killed by police — Latino, black, Asian, and indigenous people — surpasses the number of whites. As ThinkProgressnoted last year, young black men are 21 times more likely to be killed by cops than young white men, according to a ProPublica analysis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also compiled data which show that people of color are most likely to be killed by cops overall.

The data also show that California, Texas, and Florida lead the U.S. in terms of deadly police encounters.

2015policekillingsunarmed.jpeg

Key Findings:

  • Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week.

  • Nearly 1 in 3 black people killed by police in 2015 were identified as unarmed, though the actual number is likely higher due to underreporting

  • 37% of unarmed people killed by police were black in 2015 despite black people being only 13% of the U.S. population

  • Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015

  • Only 10 of the 102 cases in 2015 where an unarmed black person was killed by police resulted in officer(s) being charged with a crime, and only 2 of these deaths (Matthew Ajibade and Eric Harris) resulted in convictions of officers involved. Only 1 of 2 officers convicted for their involvement in Matthew Ajibade’s death received jail time. He was sentenced to 1 year in jail and allowed to serve this time exclusively on weekends. Deputy Bates, who killed Eric Harris, was sentenced to 4 years for murdering an unarmed man. This is the only cop who has served time for murders committed by police in 2015.

The Peaceresource editor’s Note:
I read ALL of these incidents.  Why do we allow this?
If you read these 102 cases of police assault, killings, and flat out murder,
perhaps you will find a reason to stand up and fight back for justice.
We ARE under attack.

Hillary’s crimes cannot be erased…

“In March 2011, Clinton supported the NATO attacks on Libya to aid rebels in their attempts to overthrow Moammar Gadhafi, which … led to Libya becoming the failed state that it is today.”

Most people do not hate Hillary, they hate the war machine she endorses and supports.

Clinton, who served in the U.S. Senate from 2001 to 2009 and as Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013, has supported every major recent U.S. war and intervention.

a look at her record:
During her time as a senator from New York, Clinton voted in favor of the Patriot Act, a controversial piece of legislation due to concerns about civil liberty violations, including the indefinite detention of immigrants, and the expansion of law enforcement’s power to search homes, businesses, and electronic communications — often without a court order.
6_9_2015_dem-2016-clinton-282www.washingtontimesdot.com01_c0-29-2334-1389_s885x516 Clinton supports the United States’ traditional allies in the Middle East as well, like Saudi Arabia and Israel. She has also penned an opinion piece for the Washington Post, where she expressed her strong admiration for Henry Kissinger.
Clinton, …  supported the post-9/11 invasion of Afghanistan.

The New York senator voted in favor of the 2002 Iraq War Resolution. This sent U.S. troops into Iraq, destroyed the country and created the chaos in the region today.
Clinton introduced legislation in 2005 to increase the size of the U.S. Army by 80,000 soldiers due to difficulties the troop force was facing in Iraq.

1246205860wwwdotelmundodot.es_0That same year, she helped to ensure that Manuel Zelaya, the democratically-elected president of Honduras, who was overthrown in a military coup in 2009, would not return to office. …

In March 2011, Clinton supported the NATO attacks on Libya to aid rebels in their attempts to overthrow Moammar Gadhafi, which … led to Libya becoming the failed state that it is today.

After becoming Secretary of State in 2009, Clinton supported Obama’s decision to send an additional 21,000 troops into Afghanistan.

The secretary then supported greater contact with Free Syrian Army rebels in Syria and wanted to arm them.
Clinton supported Israel’s attacks on Gaza last summer, which killed over 2,300 people and left almost 500,000 displaced.
More recently, she supported a bombing campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)…
When asked about moral scruples, Hillary the hawk’s response was: “What difference, at this point, does it make?”

Clinton’s actions as Secretary of state were war crimes. She should be in jail, not the White House. She broke the law, cost us billions and killed millions. Not small potatoes.

Portland Police Bureau Calling the Shots

So far, PDX Police Bureau officers have been provided with a license to kill at will, even unarmed citizens, without accountability. This is the signal that various mayors and PDX City Councils have delivered over the last 20 years.

So does Portland Police Bureau policy need to be corrected? Does it ever!

fightbackSo far, PDX Police Bureau officers have been provided with a license to kill at will, even unarmed citizens, without accountability. This is the signal that various mayors and PDX City Councils have delivered over the last 20 years.

One set of laws for us and a whole ‘nuther set of exceptions to laws for the police. This is not how it’s supposed to work.
Accountability matters, and so do human lives.

http://www.ThePortlandAlliance.org/otis

But “Don’t Choke ‘Em, Smoke ‘Em”.. attitudes still exist in both officers on the street and justicepoliceadministration. If the bureau, city council and mayor persist in their machinations, the DOJ may have to step in, restore the rule of law, and start from scratch.

http://www.ThePortlandAlliance.org/keatonotis

Otherwise members of the PDX Police bureau will continue to ignore the law and misuse and abuse citizens. When the people we hire choose to beat-up, target and kill citizens at will…. it is time to lay down the law and fire officers who break the law..

The murders of Aaron Campbell, Keaton Otis,  and James Chasse, Jr. have never been resolved. None of the officers who broke the law and violated Police Department Procedures have been charged, tried,or prosecuted for these crimes. We, the citizens of Portland, Oregon have paid millions for the crimes committed by PDX police officers, yet none of these officers have been disciplined. They continue to serve in spite of their crimes. The shootings of James Jahar Perez and Kendra James may have been forgotten by some, but we have yet to see accountability or justice.

THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY

The Panthers had many little-known sides to their work, organizing dozens of community programs like free breakfasts, health clinics and shoes for children.

THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY FOR SELF-DEFENSE

Formed in 1966, the Black Panther Party for Self Defense was the largest Black revolutionary organization that has ever existed.

fightbackFamous for taking up guns in defense against police brutality, the Panthers had many other little-known sides to their work. They organized dozens of community programs such as free breakfast for children, health clinics and shoes for children.

Such was their success that they rapidly grew to a size of 5,000 full time party workers, organized in 45 chapters (branches) across America. At their peak, they sold 250,000 papers every week. Opinion polls of the day showed the Panthers to have 90% support amongst Blacks in the major blmcities. Their impact on Black America can be measured by the response of the state. J. Edgar Hoover, then head of the FBI described them as “the number one threat to the internal security of the United States”.

In this chapter, we will be looking at the formation of the Panthers, their program and activities, but more importantly, what marked the Panthers out to be different from all other organizations, what led them to be the inspiration to generations around the world to join the struggle against oppression.”

HueyHuey Percy Newton (February 17, 1942 — August 22, 1989) was an African-American political and urban activist who, along with Bobby Seale, co-founded the Black Panther Party in 1966. Newton had a long series of confrontations with law enforcement, including several convictions, while he participated in political activism. He continued to pursue an education, eventually earning a Ph.D. in Social Science. Newton spent time in prison for manslaughter and was involved in a shooting that killed a police officer. In 1989 he was shot and killed in Oakland, California by a member of the Black Guerilla Family.

41UdubY3VzL._SL500_SY344_BO1,204,203,200_The Black Panther Party or BPP (originally the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense) was a black revolutionary socialist organization active in the United States from 1966 until 1982. The Black Panther Party achieved national and international notoriety through its involvement in the Black Power movement and U.S. politics of the 1960s and 1970s.

Founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale on October 15, 1966, the organization initially set forth a doctrine calling primarily for the protection of black neighborhoods from police brutality. The leaders of the organization espoused socialist and Marxist doctrines; however, the Party’s early black nationalist reputation attracted a diverse membership. The Black Panther Party’s objectives and philosophy expanded and evolved rapidly during the party’s existence, making ideological consensus within the party difficult to achieve, and causing some prominent members to openly disagree with the views of the leaders.

maxresdefaultThe organization’s official newspaper, The Black Panther, was first circulated in 1967. Also that year, the Black Panther Party marched on the California State Capitol in Sacramento in protest of a selective ban on weapons. By 1968, the party had expanded into many cities throughout the United States, among them, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Newark, New Orleans, New York City, Omaha, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.. Peak membership was near 10,000 by 1969, and their newspaper, under the editorial leadership of Eldridge Cleaver, had a circulation of 250,000. The group created a Ten-Point Program, a document that called for “Land, Bread, Housing, Education, Clothing, Justice and Peace”, as well as exemption from conscription for black men, among other demands. With the Ten-Point program, “What We Want, What We Believe”, the Black Panther Party expressed its economic and political grievances.

Chomsky’s wrong about JFK, Vietnam and Bernie

“Chomsky is not anti-American, and not always critical of America, but he plays that turf enough to sell books and excite his fan base. His intellect gives him a pass that most would not have the luxury otherwise. To his credit, he is genuinely brilliant, and not a moronic demagogue like Limbaugh or Beck. Still, he is a one-trick pony, no matter how eloquent and pointed his arguments.”

Chomsky chooses to ignore the fact that John Kennedy called for the removal of all troops and advisers from Vietnam.  He also chooses to ignore the discrepancies in the Warren Commission’s misrepresentations. He flat out lies about the JFK assassination. And he supports the lies the government told us about the 9/11 attacks.

And Chomsky is also wrong in supporting pro-war Bernie Sanders.

“Chomsky generally analyzes internationalchomsky
relations from a geopolitical power point of view.

–he sees states as self- interested actors doing their best to improve their position, and has little time for political rhetoric designed to obfuscate that self-interest.

It’s a useful tool to use when analyzing politics, but I’ve increasingly felt that it has its limits.”

“As a linguist, he is a genius, on par with Einstein or Hawking in his chosen field. As a political analyst, I outgrew him some 5 years after college. Whatever gifts he has as a linguist only serve him in some kind of quasi-autistic-like capacity in sociopolitical analysis. After awhile, the formula becomes pat – he is a one-note song. You could practically write noam-chomsky-2014-22realism-national-interest-and-the-israel-lobby22_converted_scruberthumbnail_4your own Chomsky Mad Libs based on this formula. It is certainly true that the U.S. is far from the good guys in white hats caricature drawn by most of the Right and the neocons, but he makes a fetish out of his contrarian deconstruction, to the point where the U.S. (and/or Israel) is the only abuser of power, the only hypocrite, the only nation committing human rights abuses.

This plays perfectly into the Right-wing lie that all Leftists are knee-jerk Beauty-of-night-moonlight-picture-poetic-art-imageanti-Americans or always critical of America. Chomsky is not anti-American, and not always critical of America, but he plys that turf enough to sell books and excite his fan base. His intellect gives him a pass that most would not have the luxury otherwise. To his credit, he is genuinely brilliant, and not a moronic demagogue like Limbaugh or Beck.
