What’s the Point?

“We can flood our years with sunshine — with the divine climate of kindness, and we can drain to the last drop the golden cup of joy.”

what is point“What’s the point of all this?”

A legitimate notion and reasonable question. Many have questioned the nature and purpose of the human condition. Why are we here?   What point indeed.

Charles Mingus – Pedal Point Blues:  https://youtu.be/FgzheEIzjlE?list=RDFgzheEIzjlE

The “point” has nothing to do with myths
about blind-faith deism, atheism or death.

scatter joy

But we can scatter joy…

“Like the most of you, I was raised among people who knew – who were certain. They did not reason or investigate. They had no doubts…

We can be as honest as we are ignorant. If we are, when asked what is beyond the horizon of the known, we must say that we do not know. We can tell the truth, and we can enjoy the blessed freedom that the brave have won.

We can destroy the monsters of superstition, the hissing snakes of ignorance and fear. We can drive from our minds the frightful things that tear and wound with beak and fang. We can civilize our fellow-men.

ingersoll2We can fill our lives with generous deeds, with loving words, with art and song, and all the ecstasies of love. We can flood our years with sunshine — with the divine climate of kindness, and we can drain to the last drop the golden cup of joy.

Robert Green “Bob” Ingersoll was an American lawyer, a Civil War veteran, politician, and orator of the United States during the Golden Age of Free Thought, noted for his broad range of culture and his defense of agnosticism.

“Nothing to fear but fear itself”

Voting for war has not been working for 36 years. When voting for Democrats or Republicans advocating war, you better think about the consequences of your actions.

greennewdeal

A Green New Deal is what America needs…

We have had enough “great” pretenders.
We need a Green New Deal…

We have nothing to fear, but fear itself.

fdr-color-a“This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.”
~FDR
stein3“The Democrats take their marching orders from the economic elite, and they know that if they don’t have fear as a weapon against us in order to extort our votes, then they can’t win our votes. So they are permanently attached to fear-based voting and work very hard to ensure that we remain their captives. In my opinion, that alone is cause for them to lose your vote.

fearAnd let me say further that this fear is our worst enemy. We have 43 million Americans trapped in predatory student loan debt without a real shot at getting out of it. There are 27 million Latinos who see so plainly that Republicans are the party of hate and fear, but Democrats are the party of detentions, deportations and night raids.”

Hillary, Donald, Barack & Bernie Support Wars for Corporate Profit

“During her interview… Dr. Stein quoted Alice Walker: “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”

Obama’s and Clinton’s doctrine of covert and proxy war, by which they still tout drone strikes, JSOC death squads, CIA coups and local proxy forces as politically safe “tools” to project U.S. power across the world without the deployment of U.S. “boots on the ground,” has destroyed Libya, Yemen, Syria and Ukraine, and left U.S. foreign policy in an unprecedented crisis.

scaryclintonHanging over this escalating, out-of-control crisis is the existential danger of war between the U.S. and Russia. Russia has 14,700 nuclear weapons with the destructive power to end life on Earth as we know it.  With her demonstrated, deeply-held belief in the superiority of threats, brinksmanship and war over diplomacy and the rule of law, surely the last thing the world needs now is Hillary Clinton playing chicken with the Russians while the fate of life on Earth hangs in the balance.

https://consortiumnews.com/2016/02/19/hillary-clinton-and-the-dogs-of-war/

“Sanders criticized Hillary Clinton for her support of the Iraq war, declaring, “On foreign policy, Hillary Clinton voted for the war in Iraq…Not only I voted against, I helped lead the effort against what I knew would be a disaster.”

bernieisangrySanders’ assertion about Clinton is true, but the difference between the two candidates on war is hardly substantial and his political closet is filled with just as many skeletons. Notably he supported NATO’s bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, a stance that caused one of his staffers to resign in protest.

…The attack on Kosovo is hardly the extent of Sanders’ hawkishness. While it’s true he voted against the Iraq war, he voted in favor of authorizing funds for that war and the one in Afghanistan. More recently, he voted in favor of a $1 billion aid package for the coup government in Ukraine and supported Israel’s assault on Gaza. At a town hall meeting he admitted that Israel may have “overreacted,” but he blamed Hamas for the entire conflict. When an audience member asked why he refused to condemn Israel’s actions, he told critics: “Excuse me! Shut up! You don’t have the microphone.”

While Clinton, Sanders and Trump are not presidential material, we were offered a real candidate with legitimate policy, a real plan and solutions.  Her name is Jill Stein and her plan is Alice_WalkerbookfansnetThe Green New Deal.

“During her interview… Dr. Stein quoted Alice Walker: ‘The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.’

A look at both recent history and current events demonstrates that people do have more power than they may generally believe. … people in the U.S. and around the world are recognizing their power, and using it to further the cause of human rights.”

https://thepeaceresource.wordpress.com/2015/08/06/the-first-woman-president-jill-stein/

If our new president were Dr. Jill Stein…
we would have secured the peace and invested in people and planet Earth.

DSC_0635-copy.14236.widea.0“My Power to the People Plan creates deep system change, moving from the greed and exploitation of corporate capitalism to a human-centered economy that puts people, planet and peace over profit.

It offers direct answers to the economic, social, and ecological crises brought on by both corporate political parties. And it empowers the American people to fix our broken political system and make real the promise of democracy.

This plan will end unemployment and poverty; avert climate catastrophe; build a sustainable, just economy; and recognize the dignity and human rights of everyone in our society and our world. The power to create this new world is not in our hopes, it’s not in our dreams – it’s in our hands.”

Protesters Shut Down the Donald Trump Rally in St. Louis for a Full 10 Minutes

At least a dozen protesters at Donald Trump’s March 11 rally in St. Louis have been detained in a single coordinated protest inside the Peabody Opera House.

The action managed to shut down the rally for close to ten minutes — to Trump’s audible dismay. At one point, the chants of “USA” brought things to such a halt that Trump resorted to begging for police action.

“Where are the police? Get ’em out,” he says at one point. “Get ’em out.”

The protest, a coordinated effort involving an estimated 40-50 activists, began with the coordinated drop of a large banner from the balcony of the Opera House. One said, “Caution, racism lives here” and the other said “Stop the hate.”

The protest also included about 10-15 people on the lower level ripping off their shirts to reveal T-shirts they’d been wearing underneath with anti-Trump slogans. Others had signs denigrating the Republican presidential frontrunner, including ones comparing Trump to the KKK.

The protesters stood in the aisles and linked arms before being pried apart by multiple police officers. The protesters went limp or were yanked to the ground as police used zip ties and handcuffs to detain them in the aisles.

As best we can tell, the cuffed protesters were then taken to a holding area somewhere inside the opera house. We also witnessed protesters being led down from the balcony area in zip ties.

Even before the large coordinated effort, there were at least a handful of smaller protests featuring one or two people. They, too, were led away by police.

The larger coordinated protest featured many people who had been active as protesters in Ferguson.

…The candidate tells the audience, “These are not good people folks, just so you understand. These are not good people. And I heard this was going to happen, and they said, ‘Mr. Trump, would you like to cancel?’ I said, ‘absolutely not.’ These are not good people. These are not the people that made our country great, but we’re going to make it great again. But these are not good people. These are the people that are destroying our country. Get ‘em out. Get ‘em out. Come let’s go. Get em out.”

He later adds, “Missouri, I can’t believe this.” And, “Honestly, can I be honest with you? It adds to the flavor. It makes it more exciting.”

…Here’s some video from inside:

… the protesters have already been released from Central Booking. Among them was St. Louis Alderwoman Megan Ellyia Green, who participated in the protest and was among those removed from the rally.

Green confirms that she has been given a citation for disturbing the peace. We presume the other protesters were hit with the same citation; we’ll update this post if we hear more.

We’re told that around 30 people were arrested. They were released as a group. One of the protest organizers tells us that there may be three other protesters yet to be released. A Trump supporter who threw a water bottle at the protester was also arrested; we are unsure of his status.

A powerful endorsement!

Chris Hedges Endorses Jill Stein for 2016.

Chris-Hedges-endorses-Jill-SteinJill Stein was honored to learn yesterday (Wed. Feb. 26,2016) that Chris Hedges,
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and fearless truth-teller, published an article on Truthdig entitled:  “Why I Support Dr. Jill Stein for President”.

The whole article is well worth reading, but here’s an excerpt to give you a sense of Hedges’ powerful and passionate reasoning:

“We do not have the luxury, or the right, to pick and choose whom among oppressed people it is politically convenient to support.

We will rise or fall together.

81-KPqrfqzL._SL1500_This is why I support Dr. Jill Stein, who is running to be the Green Party candidate for president after having won her party’s nomination in 2012. I support Stein because she understands that this is primarily about building a global movement, not about participating in an election. She, unlike Bernie Sanders, knows that this movement will never be realized within the Democratic Party or by paying deference to the power elites, the Israel lobby or the arms industry and the military establishment. She grasps that until we name and destroy the evil of militarism and imperialism, genuine social and political reform, indeed democracy, is impossible. She does not want to work within the corporate establishment. She wants to dismantle it. And all the pundits who tell us not to waste our vote miss the point. It is time to stop playing the game.”

stein123“This glowing endorsement from one of the leading political and social thinkers of our time comes at a moment when our campaign is building momentum daily.

Just in the last few weeks, we’ve qualified for federal matching funds earlier than any Green presidential campaign in history, and started our ballot access drive strong in states across the country. And now we’re preparing to essentially double the size of our campaign team, which will take our organizing power to a whole new level.~

~Jill Stein

jill7

“We have to understand how absolutely deadly the threat is that we are facing now,” Stein said, “whether it’s the next economic collapse, which we are teetering on the brink of right now, or whether it is the meltdown of our climate. We are looking at the collapse of our major ice sheets within the next couple of decades. Within a handful of decades we could basically ruin all coastal cities. When Pearl Harbor was bombed we called out a national emergency, and within six months we had converted 25 percent of GDP to a wartime footing and stayed there. We are facing an all-out climate emergency. It got much worse under the Democrats. Obama [and the Democratic Party] had two houses of Congress. People should not make excuses for Obama—’it was the bad Republicans.’ This is the second point about the politics of fear. The lesser evil paves the way to the greater evil. It’s not in opposition to it. It makes way for it.

solvingtheclimatecrisis.com“Democracy needs values,” she said. “Democracy does not exist in a vacuum. There’s nothing more powerful than a moral compass. We have to bring that moral compass to our democracy, because it is a ship lost in a storm right now.”

Chris Hedges, whose column is published weekly on Truthdig, has written 11 books, including the New York Times best seller “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt” (2012), which he co-authored with the cartoonist Joe Sacco. Hedges previously spent nearly two decades as a foreign correspondent in Central America, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans. Hedges was part of the team of reporters at The New York Times awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for the paper’s coverage of global terrorism. He also received the Amnesty International Global Award for Human Rights Journalism in 2002.

Will you help keep the momentum going by contributing as much as you can today?

Don’t forget: your contribution will be matched up to the first $250 by federal matching funds!

Every dollar you give will be doubled and put immediately to work building the global movement of movements for people, planet and peace over profit that we need so desperately in this historical moment.

Thank you for all that you do.   It’s in our hands!
