“Our generation is on the verge of the most profound catastrophe the human species has ever faced. Death threats to the living earth are coming from all sides. Water, sunlight, air and soil are all threatened.”
36 plus years of avoidable wars of aggression against smaller and less powerful nations who did not attack was never a good idea. Legislators and presidents, in our name, have spent trillions killing millions for billionaires, munitions firms and war-profiteers.
There are consequences for this lawless corporate malfeasance…
“Available economic, educational, and military data indicate that, when it comes to U.S. global power, negative trends will aggregate rapidly by 2020 and are likely to reach a critical mass no later than 2030.”
The American Century, proclaimed so triumphantly at the start of World War II, will be tattered and fading by 2025, its eighth decade, and could be history by 2030.
;America is bankrupt. The funny money we have been printing, with nothing to back it up, will become relatively worthless before 2030. This will trigger global depression. The United States will be retreating from more than 900 military bases in 150 nations while dying oceans rise to flood many shores.
“Our generation is on the verge of the most profound catastrophe the human species has ever faced. Death threats to the living earth are coming from all sides. Water, sunlight, air and soil are all threatened. When Eskimos of the far north begin to experience leukemia from atomic radiation and Eskimo mothers’ milk contains crisis levels of PCBs, we must recognize that every organism on the planet is threatened..”
The demise of the United States as the global superpower could come far more quickly than anyone imagines. A realistic assessment of domestic and global trends suggests that in 2025, just 8 years from now, it could all be over except for the shouting.

Many thanks to comrades who came to City Hall today to support my testimony that challenged the Mayor and Council members to be out on the streets with us on Sept 10th and to do what they can to publicize the Portland Stands United Against Hate rally and march!!
It was a challenge to me to get comments into three minutes. Whew. If you can, make some phone calls and write some emails to keep the pressure on them. I pasted on my testimony below.
On Sept 10th, Portland is slated yet again to be the site of a white supremacist event. Joey Gibson is mobilizing a “Portland Freedom March” featuring a prominent Confederate monument defender.
I believe, and many would agree, that as the people who were elected to be in charge of the City of Portland, you have an ethical obligation to clearly and definitively demonstrate that you are against white supremacy.
In the August 16th message from elected leaders in the Portland area, it is great that you all say that each of us can take a stand against racism.
Two clear ways for you to take a stand against racism on September 10th are:
1. Join the Portland Stands United Against Hate Rally and March at Terry Shrunk Plaza at 1pm.
And, 2. Publicly encourage Portland residents to be at this protest and to come out in their thousands.
Get on the media!
67 racist rallies were recently cancelled, not because people stayed home, or marched on a different day, or marched far away, but because people came out in overwhelming numbers, and were visible to those white supremacists.
I believe that it is critical for you all to show, by your public actions, which side you are on because at this point , Joey Gibson and other white supremacists feel ALL TOO COMFORTABLE in our city. Just a few of the things that I’m sure they’ve noticed:
– On May 25th, the night before the racial assaults and murders on the MAX by Jeremy Christian, an African American women was attacked by Christian. The police officer who arrived at the scene did not apprehend him. Imagine if this woman were white and Christian were black.
On May 26th after having stabbed two heroes to death, police officers let Christian keep ranting and drinking a beer before arresting him. Again, imagine if Christian were black.
– The double standards are all too clear. On May Day and at the June protest against white supremacists, peaceful participants were met by militarized police in riot gear with concussion grenades and more. Hundreds of May Day participants had their free speech curtailed in collective punishment. On June 4th, anti-white supremacists were rounded up and forced to have their IDs recorded before they could leave Chapman Square, while nothing like this happened to the white supremacists, whose free speech was assiduously protected by police.
On the positive side, many of us noticed that the Aug. 18th Eclipse Hate Rally and March was not met with militarized police. And, it worked well!
Will you join the Portland Stands United Against Hate Rally that is endorsed by more than 35 groups, including the Portland Association of Teachers, SEIU 503 E-Board, SEIU 49, Voz, Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and Main St. Alliance? Will you use your bully pulpit to help make Portland like Boston!
We all can and must do our parts!
Would the people who agree with me stand or raise hands?
We’d love to hear your responses, or let us know when you can get back with us. I am submitting a long list of organizations that have so far endorsed the Portland Stands United Against Hate Rally and March.
“Like the most of you, I was raised among people who knew – who were certain. They did not reason or investigate. They had no doubts…
We can be as honest as we are ignorant. If we are, when asked what is beyond the horizon of the known, we must say that we do not know. We can tell the truth, and we can enjoy the blessed freedom that the brave have won.
We can destroy the monsters of superstition, the hissing snakes of ignorance and fear. We can drive from our minds the frightful things that tear and wound with beak and fang. We can civilize our fellow-men.
We can fill our lives with generous deeds, with loving words, with art and song, and all the ecstasies of love. We can flood our years with sunshine — with the divine climate of kindness, and we can drain to the last drop the golden cup of joy.”
― Robert G. Ingersoll, The Works of Robert G. Ingersoll, Vol 1: Lectures
Robert Green “Bob” Ingersoll was an American lawyer, a Civil War veteran, politician, and orator of the United States during the Golden Age of Free Thought, noted for his broad range of culture and his defense of agnosticism.
We have expanded the American empire and Bernie intends for this expansion to continue.
But this nearly “imperial” expansion of empire contradicts Sanders’ most passionate populist rhetoric.
“Shut-up”, You don’t have the microphone!” is not a good enough response to questions about war, peace, life, death, murder, chaos, decline and surrender.”
Bernie has not been real helpful to the people he represents during his career in the U. S. Congress. Sanders has been abandoning whatever principles he might have had to fit a variety of circumstances.
He started out in congress 25 years ago. But after the first ten years, Sanders has been voting to support American and Israeli aggression and war-profiteering for the past 15 years.
Bernie surrendered to the corporate elite.
He agrees to become war-tenderof: 27 avoidable wars, a rogue drone program known to kill an average of 50 innocents per strike and committing murders: presidential assassinations without criminal charges, a trial, due process or the rule of law.
And Sanders plans to continue bombing weaker and less powerful (often Muslim) nations for extraction, extortion or exploitation. With this aggressive posture towards the globe, Bernie (who would be the leader of the richest and most powerful empire on earth) agrees that we should continue sending the Army, Navy, Marines, FBI, CIA or whatever it takes… to perpetuate avoidable wars of aggression for the corporate elite.
These unnecessary conflicts cost trillions of dollars and take millions of lives for the benefit of the 1%. These are war-cons who cynically watch the chaos of our decline, placing billions of dollars in accounts overseas so they can continue to pay no taxes on their illicit gains.
And the American people pay the bill, with our dwindling resources and sometimes with our lives. This is not smart and not progressive.
…. Here is the reality.
We’ve expanded the American empire and Bernie intends for this military aggression to continue. But this nearly “imperial” expansion of empire contradicts Sanders’ most passionate populist rhetoric. He pretends he will force corporate cons to bend to his will, even while he allows them to continue taking us to the cleaners while making us less secure. Instead of talking out of both sides of his face, Bernie needs to tell the truth.
“Shut-up”, You don’t have the microphone!” is not a good enough response to questions about war, peace, life, death, murder, chaos, decline and surrender.
Bernie refuses to talk about either the costs of his plans or the realities imposed by military-industrial expansion. When push comes to shove…
Bernie needs to show us the money!
Endless wars for profit are counter-intuitive, unsustainable and already bankrupting the American Empire. But Bernie does not want to talk about it.
Bernie is not a revolutionary, he is a politician. And when it comes to war, peace and moving forward… he does not seem to have a clue.
Sanders is no longer a socialist, nor is he a humanist. He is acts like and old-style Southern Democrat: talking the talk about being a gentleman, raving and moaning about economic justice but quietly surrendering to unnecessary wars of aggression. For the past
15 years Bernie has endorsed unending wars against smaller and less powerful nations. These conflicts are untenable and cannot be sustained. Sanders has signed on as a Democrat, for the duration, effectively shooting himself in the foot.
Sanders represents expanding empire with increasing wars of aggression for conquest, extraction, control and the spoils of war.
But this multi-trillion dollar corporate expansion has no way of sustaining itself.
We are rapidly depleting our resources…
in fact, we’re technically broke. Bankruptcy looms between 2020 and 2030, but Bernie won’t budge. Those who have been led to believe in Bernie (Bernie-the-Bomber hopefuls) need a reality check. Bernie is just another con. He provides self-promotion like a carny talking to a mark. (In the tradition of Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Obama) Bernie is fooling too many of us while he tries to fool himself. He’s out of his depth and has, so far, not exhibited any of the qualities of the leader we need.
Sanders, the emperor of ongoing wars for profit, has no clothes.
And when he folds up his carnival tent and votes for Hillary we are going to be in real trouble. But we have have time to think about this and change course.
Dr. Jill Stein has a FUNDED plan for ACTUAL change. This plan is vetted by experts. She does not owe her soul to the corporate party line. And she will not raise taxes. With this brilliant woman in charge, we can shut down corporate wars and force reinvestment in this nation. We can secure the peace, stop our own aggression, and invest trillions in peace instead of war: she will support jobs with justice by building roads, improving schools, adding to libraries, strengthening universities, funding research labs, upgrading utilities delivery systems, providing clean and sustainable energy resources, and providing functioning schools, hospitals, clinics and social programs as needed to build a future.
It’s time to face facts. The corporate cons know they cannot continue or sustain the various military-industrial conquests made in the last eight years. We are in big trouble, and thankfully Bernie will never be president.
Sanders most complete explanation for his studious ignorance so far has been,
“Shut up, I have the microphone.”
The people in Vermont are watching with amazement as the Bernie show continues…
Bernie thinks more war, drones, disaster, disorder and death is the answer, but millions disagree:
Dr. Jill Stein knows we must secure the peace, stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia, halve the military budget and invest those funds in infrastructure: rails, roads, bridges, libraries, schools, universities and public services. We can export knowledge, technology and peace instead of terror, munitions and war. Stein is brilliant, has four degrees, and while smarter than the last five presidents… she is down to earth. It’s time we put this doctor in charge because she has the cure. She’s taken an oath to do no harm and will secure the peace, rebuild this nation and reconnect us with building a better world.
Think about it.
We can take our approval to the voting booth. We are stepping from an imponderable past into a spellbinding future. Lifting one foot from beneath the underbelly of the beast of war, while our other foot falls upon upon solid ground. And we know in that moment, between past and future, that upon landing… peace can be secured while we rebuild and all ships rise.
We can shine with Stein!

“Just being slightly less worse than the worst possible scenario is not acceptable. We have to be willing to stand up and throw off those chains of powerlessness. In the words of Alice Walker, ‘the biggest way people give up power is by not knowing they have it.’
We have it.”
“The Democratic Party is not going to allow Bernie Sanders to squeak through, so where would we be if we don’t have a Plan B? When Bernie gets knocked out of contention, there would be no place for people to go if not for our campaign. The difference between our campaign and Bernie’s is that we’re not looking for the Democratic Party to save us. We are establishing an independent base for political resistance where we can continue to grow, because there is no relief on the horizon and we need to get busy right now building the lifeboat we’ll need to rescue ourselves and our children.” -Dr. Jill Stein
…after years of losing hope under President Barack Obama, progressives in the U.S. are readyfor the sort of radical change that neither party has to offer: things like genuinely free healthcare, student debt forgiveness and military spending that no longer rivals what the rest of the world spends combined.”“The crisis in the health care system is a symptom of a much broader crisis across all sectors of society, where essentially policy has been hijacked for the benefit of the wealthy few”
“There’s no excuse for us to be quaking in our boots about casting a vote that could not only liberate us but the rest of the world from the certain fate that we have now under either party of oligarchy and imperialism.”
“The Democrats are as deep in corrupt political money as anyone and what they deliver is as bad as the Republicans.”
“Just being slightly less worse than the worst possible scenario is not acceptable. We have to be willing to stand up and throw off those chains of powerlessness. In the words of Alice Walker, the biggestway people give up power is by not knowing they have it. We have it. The people of Guatemala knew they have it. There’s no excuse for us to be quaking in our boots about casting a vote that could not only liberate us but the rest of the world from the certain fate that we have right now under either party of oligarchy and imperialism. We have the ability to change course for the USA and the entire world.” ~Jill Stein
in the world we deserve, I would welcome Edward Snowden home a hero, and release Chelsea Manning, Jeffrey Sterling, Julian Assange and other courageous truth tellers with praise and reparations. Their actions are essential for preserving our imperiled democracy in the face of secretive, unaccountable corporate government.
So why is Snowden a hero?
“I’ll leave the last word to Ellsberg, who, for revealing to the world that that Pentagon knew early on that the war in Vietnam was unwinnable, was described in some quarters as a communist and a traitor: ‘Snowden did what he did because he recognised the NSA’s surveillance programs for what they are: dangerous, unconstitutional activity. This wholesale invasion of Americans’ and foreign citizens’ privacy does not contribute to our security; it puts in danger the very liberties we’re trying to protect.'” http://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cassidy/why-edward-snowden-is-a-hero
“In the world of crisis we face, every one of the Democratic candidates except Lincoln Chafee endorsed the jailing of Edward Snowden. Yet Snowden has revealed pervasive, unconstitutional government spying on American citizens and people around the world that threatens the very foundation of democracy.
For this reason, in the world we deserve, I would welcome Edward Snowden home a hero, and release Chelsea Manning, Jeffrey Sterling, Julian Assange and other courageous truth tellers with praise and reparations. Their actions are essential for preserving our imperiled democracy in the face of secretive, unaccountable corporate government.
In this world of crisis, the sham presidential debates and the parties that run them are wholly owned corporate subsidiaries. In 2012, I was arrested for simply trying to enter the grounds of a debate. I was taken to a secret dark site, handcuffed to a metal chair, and held for seven hours until the debate was over and the press was long gone. Clearly, the political establishment is frightened that word will get out that people have choices outside the corporate duopoly. Now our campaign is fighting along with our Libertarian allies to open the debates and get that word out. We have a right to vote. And we have a right to know who we can vote for!
Democrats and Republicans have given us the America we have. With the 2016 election just a year away, our campaign is fighting for the world we deserve.
Please join us in this peaceful rebellion by going here. Thanks for all you do to keep this movement moving forward.”
Those who insist on pretending we only can choose between Democrats and Republicans must learn how to think outside the corporate box. We have 36 years of evidence that perpetual and unending war is not the answer. And sitting on the couch hoping for change or only focusing on local issues are not solutions.
We must keep our eyes on the prize of freedom and vote values instead of fears. We can secure the peace and demand justice. Too much hangs in the balance to straddle the fence, vote for “lesser evils” or surrender.
peace and justice, Tim (tmf)
Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are fatally-flawed pro-war candidates.
Hillarysupports the odd notion that Israel is somehow entitled to break the law, build illegal settlements, hide nuclear bombs from international inspections and attack virtually defenseless occupied and surrounded people. Israel has an Army, Navy and an Air Force. These resources are backed up with un-inspected nuclear weapons. Israeli “Defense” Force attacks on Gaza and the West Bank are offense not defense: this criminal enterprise must end.
Aside from Hillary’a blinders on the Middle East, she endorses multiple wars of choice and spouts Netanyahu’s delusional aspirations about attacking Iran (and flirting with World War III) instead of dealing with facts on the ground. She is trigger-happy, unstable, dangerous and has been wrong too many times. She has committed international crimes by her machinations with Libya and Syria. She should not hold public office.
“Given the US record of the past dozen years, there is a great deal to be said in principle for a long period in which Washington simply pulls back from involvement in international crises. In practice, though, as several administrations have found, international affairs will not leave a US president alone. Crises blow up suddenly, and to craft an appropriate response requires a consistent philosophy, deep local knowledge, a firm grip on the US foreign-policy apparatus, and the ability to frame that response in ways that will gain the necessary support from the policy establishment, media and population. These are sufficiently great challenges in themselves. To expect in addition that a statesman will display originality, moral courage and a willingness to challenge national shibboleths is probably too much to ask of anyone. On the evidence to date, this is certainly too much to ask ofHillary Rodham Clinton.”
Bernie Sanders is an older and conservative politician dedicated to the military status quo. His populist rhetoric about ecnomics is compelling, but the congressional record provides glaring examples which prove he remains a “hawk” on Israel, the F-35, drones and specific wars of choice. These stances mock his supporters and explain why he is not running against Hillary, but for her. He told us he plans to vote for Hillary and by doing so endorse the ongoing Democratic apparatus of destabilization, invasion, attacks and avoidable wars of aggression against smaller and less powerful nations.
Sanders seems ambivalent about how black lives do not matter in America.
(Bernie Sanders’} foreign policy positions are to the right of many liberal Democrats. Sanders voted in favor of George W. Bush’s original Authorization for Use of Military Force resolution that gave the administration a green light to launch the war on Afghanistan. While he did vote against Bush’s invasion of Iraq, he repeatedly supported funding resolutions for both US occupations. And while critical of some aspects of Israeli policy, Sanders has a less than stellar record on Palestine, even going as far as defending Israel’s right to “self-defense” during its bloody assault on the Gaza Strip last summer.”
This alone should disqualify him as a presidential contender. The lesser-evil theory has been completely and overwhelming debunked. We must forget voting for evil and work for the greater good.
“Sanders’backing of US imperialism compromises his support for workers’ rights.”
“Sanders not only defends military contracts that benefit his constituents in Vermont, he also joined the 100 to 0 vote in the Senate to give unalloyed moral and political support to the state of Israel during its most recent bombing campaign against Gaza.”
We can do much better than three right-leaning, conservative pretenders who ignore human rights, freedom and attending to the real victory: peace in our time. Instead, all three want to continue flogging the dead horse of endless conflicts with munitions cartels in charge of our military and our nation driven by wars of choice.
Only one candidate has identified what is destroying the health of this nation and wasting vital resouces. We spend trillions killing millions instead of investing in people and the places where we live.
If we shut down unnecessary wars of choice, we can redirect national, corporate and human resources in reversing environmental degradation, repairing infrastructure and investing in peace.
Stein will begin a radical transition from exporting destabilization, munitions, terror and war to the more sustainable export of human services, technnological resources, courage and peace.
This doctor has an established plan and singular purpose. We must shut down the corporate war-machine and insist on investment in peace, research, infratructure, equity and progress.
Dr. Jill Stein has been endorsed as the single best person to be our next President by Noam Chomsky, a linguist, author and activist, and by Chris Hedges, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and war correspondent, among others. She is as real as it gets.
Dr. Jill Stein is a mother, physician, longtime teacher of internal medicine, and pioneering environmental-health advocate.
She is the co-author of two widely-praised reports, In Harm’s Way: Toxic Threats to Child Development, published in 2000, and Environmental Threats to Healthy Aging, published in 2009.. The first of these has been translated into four languages and is used worldwide. The reports promote green local economies, sustainable agriculture, clean power, and freedom from toxic threats.”
Dr. Stein has taken a vow to do no harm. She has the creative genious, foresight and courage required to heal this nation. After 36 years of men (greater and lesser evils), the time has arrived when we can most benefit from the steady hand of a woman marshalling the resources to find victory in peace, equity, justice and freedom in our time. And it’s about time. ~tmf.
_________________________________________________ https://thepeaceresource.wordpress.com/2015/05/02/jill-stein-walks-the-talk/ We spend trillions fighting avoidable wars chosen by advocates on one side or another of the corporate aisle. Most of the biggest players (like the 16 big guys who make billions and pay no taxes) are savvy enough to payoff both corporate parties to hedge their bets.
Our only option is to pay attention. Between 60 and 75% of the voting public say, at this point, they are ready and willing to seriously consider a third party. This is good and bad. The bad part is Bernie Sanderswill rope people into the lesser evil myth (with a blind eye to Israeli and corporate aggression.) The truths he tells about banks are useful, but when he folds up his tent and supports Hillary, we are left in the lurch with nothing but Clinton and a Bush. But we have a bird in the hand!
Dr. Jill Stein has a plan for revolutionary change.
She will put everyday people back in charge.
