Bernies’ war votes, yes Virginia, he has them. A long list of them.

Bernie Sanders’ War Votes; Yes Virginia, he has them.  A long list of them, all drawn right from the Congressional record.
Progressive? We don’t think so.

Bernie Sanders War Votes

Bernard Sanders has been voting for, funding and supporting corporate-American wars about extraction for the past 40 years. And he continues to support this insanity today. When his consituents complain about his warlike ways, he has them arrested or tells them to shut up.

In spite of claims of being antiwar,
his “hawkish” support of Clinton’s
military actions in the 1999 Kosovo
War caused one of his advisers to quit.

When antiwar activists occupied Sanders’ office in 1999 because of that support of Clinton’s war policies, he had them arrested.

In 2001, Sanders did not support the vote in Congress to oppose the war in Afghanistan. Congresswoman Barbara Lee stood alone! This vote was followed by his support for appropriations to support both the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2003 he supported the resolution that gave support to George W. Bush in both Iraq and in the larger war against terrorism, although Sanders has been a critic of the Iraq War.
IRAQ
Sanders’ vote against the Iraq war authorization in 2002, like Obama’s (and unlike Hillary’s) is held up as some real anti-war cred, but as St. Clair writes:
“More problematic for the Senator in Birkenstock’s is the little-known fact that Bernie Sanders himself voted twice in support of regime change in Iraq. In 1998 Sanders voted in favor of the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, which said: ‘It should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime.’
Later that same year, Sanders also backed a resolution that stated: ‘Congress reaffirms that it should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime.’ These measures gave congressional backing for the CIA’s covert plan to overthrow the Hussein regime in Baghdad, as well as the tightening of an economic sanctions regime that may have killed as many as 500,000 Iraqi children. The resolution also gave the green light to Operation Desert Fox, a four-day long bombing campaign striking 100 targets throughout Iraq. The operation featured more than 300 bombing sorties and 350 ground-launched Tomahawk cruise missiles, several targeting Saddam Hussein himself” [pp. 37-38].

St. Clair adds:

“Recall that over the 8 years of Clinton Time,
Iraq was bombed an average of once every four days.”

On Foreign Policy,

Bernie Sanders
is Just Another Tool
of the American War Machine

By Eoin Higgins

…..

The left is increasingly coming to the understanding that although Sanders has some advantages in his difference over others in his party on domestic policy, he’s always been hawkish on foreign policy. Biederman described Sanders as discarding a progressive worldview in exchange for a better vision at home.

”[Foreign policy is] not a giant priority for him, but because American liberals default to endless war, that’s what he defaults to,” Biederman explained.

That’s a problem. Because for every positive contribution Sanders makes to the left by bringing new blood into the fold and ending the stigma of the term “socialism,” he damages the movement by giving ideological cover to a bellicose foreign policy that is incompatible with any world in which there’s a sense of social justice, equal rights, and peace. And because of the devotion he inspires in his most vocal, star-eyed, gurgling acolytes, a foreign policy that promotes the interests of the powerful at the expense of the weak and aims to enforce American hegemony at all costs will be assimilated into some levels of the movement.

Racist and Pro-War Bernie Sanders

Is No Socialist and No Friend of the Working Class

by Steven Argue

Bernie Sanders is also in favor of U.S. imperialism. He has supported every U.S. war including Bill Clinton’s war on Yugoslavia and Israel’s war on Gaza, as well as the U.S. wars on Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Iraq.

Sanders voted for the 2014 senate resolution that backed the Israeli massacre of thousands of civilians in Gaza.

He supported the Bill Clinton / UN starvation blockade that murdered over 1.5 million Iraqis, most of them children.

Bernie Sanders’ Troubling History of Supporting U.S. Military Violence Abroad

The attack on Kosovo is hardly the extent of Sanders’ hawkishness. While it’s true he voted against the Iraq war, he voted in favor of authorizing funds for that war and the one in Afghanistan. More recently, he voted in favor of a $1 billion aid package for the coup government in Ukraine and supported Israel’s assault on Gaza. At a town hall meeting he admitted that Israel may have “overreacted,” but he blamed Hamas for the entire conflict. When an audience member asked why he refused to condemn Israel’s actions, he told critics: “Excuse me! Shut up! You don’t have the microphone.”

Bernie Sanders a Warmonger and Economically Illiterate

Bernie Sander’s Foreign Policy of warmongering

He wanted military intervention in Yugoslavia.

He voted yes on Bombing Kosovo.   (One of his staff members resigned over it)

He voted to finance the Iraq War multiple times.

Supports the war in Afghanistan and voted for it.

Supported the coup in Ukraine and voted to give 1 billion dollars towards it.

Supports aiding Al Qaeda in Syria and calls them “moderate rebels”

Voted to invade Libya. Clinton said “With all due respect, senator, you voted for regime change with respect to Libya. You joined the Senate in voting to get rid of Gaddafi, and you asked that there be a Security Council validation of that with a resolution.” About the only truthful thing that’s ever come out of her mouth. Bernie was a cosponsor of the war propaganda resolution.

Voted for sanctions on Iran and Libya

Pro Drone Strike

He’s an imperialist

He supported US intervention in Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Liberia, Zaire (Congo), Albania, Sudan, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia

He Supports Saudi Arabia bombing Yemen and he is in total denial that Saudi Arabia is backing ISIS not fighting them.

His only vote against a war was Iraq however many Democrats did that and as a vote against Bush not the War.

Bernie voted to fund the war and had no problem with it once Obama was in charge of it. He also supported the sanctions that killed hundreds of thousands of children.

He also was against impeaching George Bush and called it impractical.

He gutted the audit the fed bill (the night before it was being voted on)

He voted for several NDAAs

Calls Assad a dictator.

Totally supports Israel. He told people in a town hall meeting to shut up about it.

, BAR executive editor

“Leftish Democrats insist they can reform the corporate-run, Russia-obsessed Democratic Party from the inside, but most pay little attention to war. However, “War is not a side issue in the United States; it is the central political issue, on which all the others turn.” Some think Bernie Sanders should run with the Peoples Party. But, “Sanders is a warmonger, not merely by association, but by virtue of his own positions.”

“The United States does not have a national health care system worthy of the name, because it is in the war business, not the health business or the social equality business.”

Bernie talks the talk about equity, but votes for wars which prevent it.

The congressional record says Bernie votes for war. This cannot be unwritten.
