Minimum (wage should be
more than $30.43 per hour.
When the minimum wage is below the poverty level, people ARE forced to take low-paying jobs. These ARE NOT “entry-level” positions. People receiving minimum wages are more often than not supporting families and barely surviving. These starvation wages have nothing to do with “new-workers.” They are about starving the poor to provide corporate welfare.

Regardless of what corporate media tells us, the minimum wage is actually supposed to be a real living wage. This is what Franklin Delano Roosevelt intended. This is what FDR said:
“It seems to me to be equally plain that no business which depends for existence on payingless than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. By ‘business’ I mean the whole of commerce as well as the whole of industry; by workers I mean all workers, the white-collar class as well as the men in overalls; and by living wages, I mean more than a bare subsistence level-I mean the wages of decent living.”
Long past time to raise wages!
According to research from MIT, the living wage in the United States was $25.02 per hour ($104,077.70 per year) before taxes per year in 2022.

Adjusting for the cost of living increases in 2022 and 2023, a living wage now, in 2024, a reasonable, prudent and equitable living wage averages out to $28 an hour.
In Portland, OR, Starbucks workers can expect an average hourly pay of around $16.65
for a barista. This is crazy. A real living wage today would require that a minimum wage be more than thirty dollars per hour. Anything less is unacceptable.
Arguments for a $30.43 minimum wage
Living wage: A $30.43 minimum wage would better reflect the true value of labor and provide a “living wage” that allows families to meet basic needs and avoid poverty.
Increased consumer spending: A living minimum wage means pumping more money into the hands of low-wage workers. This will stimulate the economy by boosting consumer demand, which will benefit local businesses and maintain hiring.
Economic fairness: Productivity has increased significantly since the 1960s, and the minimum wage has not kept pace. A higher minimum wage would ensure that workers share in the wealth they help create.
Reduced turnover: Higher wages can lead to lower employee turnover, which can reduce a company’s costs associated with hiring and training new staff.
State-level increases: Some states are moving toward higher minimum wages. For example, Washington has a bill to gradually increase its minimum wage to $25 per hour by 2031.
Corporate action: Some large companies, like Bank of America, have voluntarily raised their minimum wage to $25 per hour: to attract and retain employees and boost the economy.
Productivity alignment: Some suggest that if the minimum wage had kept pace with productivity growth since 1968, it would have been around $26 per hour in 2023.
Adjusting for the cost of living increases in 2023, a reasonable,. prudent and equitable living wage in 2024 averages out to $28 an hour.
Today, in 2025. Minimum wage should be more than $30.43 per hour.
