”RED HOUSE” – INDIGENOUS @ Callahan’s. Jan 2015

The American Indian Movement and other tribal collectives
are working with everyday people to restore peace, justice & freedom.

Native Americans have the highest mortality rate of any U.S. minority because of U.S. action and policy. The biggest killers were smallpox, measles, influenza, whooping cough, diphtheria, typhus, bubonic plague, cholera, and scarlet fever. All of these were imported by Europeans colonists and often used as tools of war.

Other murders and mayhem took place, above and beyond these deaths. These wars on indigenous nations
are the most  horrific consequence of the European invasion, occupation and exploitation.

Studies have been conducted that attempt to explain how many native people in the Americas were killed by colonists, settlers, racists and the US military.

Independent  researchers have estimated indigenous populations and population reductions using documented census data and the most accurate objective records.
“B
ut the total number of Indigenous deaths throughout the Western Hemisphere between 1492 and 1900 appears to be about 175 million.”

“By any reckoning, the Indigenous Holocaust in the Western Hemisphere was, as Stannard has pointed out, “the worst human holocaust the world had ever witnessed.” No
words or numbers can adequately convey the scale of the horror and tragedy involved in the greatest sustained loss of human life in history. Still, it seems to this researcher that
understanding the scope and dimensions of the Indigenous Holocaust is an important first step toward collective political action which addresses the needs, interests, and aspirations
of Indigenous people today—and which ensures that such a holocaust will never happen again.”

“We do not know the exact number of people killed in the Americas. There was no one back in the time of Columbus compiling a census or doing a mass survey.  However, we conclude that a figure of 75 million is reasonable.

A death toll of  100 million figure has been documented by the authors D.E. Stannard, author of American Holocaust, D.E. Stannard has said, “The destruction of the Indians of the Americas was, far and away, the most massive act of genocide in the history of the world.” And apparently it didn’t take long for the Europeans to get this genocide started.”

Note that Nazi Holocaust estimates are between 6 and 11 million; thereby making the Nazi regime responsible for the 2nd largest mass murder of a class of people in history.

“over 100 million killed”

“One could reasonably argue that the Turkish pogrom against the Armenians during World War I qualifies as a crime against humanity, as does the United States’ ethnic cleansing of Native Americans.”     ~Sebastian Junger

The time has come for peace, justice, and liberation.

“Our nation was born in genocide when it embraced the doctrine that the original American, the Indian, was an inferior race. Even before there were large numbers of Negroes on our shore, the scar of racial hatred had already disfigured colonial society. From the sixteenth century forward, blood flowed in battles over racial supremacy. We are perhaps the only nation which tried as a matter of national policy to wipe out its indigenous population. Moreover, we elevated that tragic experience into a noble crusade. Indeed, even today we have not permitted ourselves to reject or feel remorse for this shameful episode. Our literature, our films, our drama, our folklore all exalt it. Our children are still taught to respect the violence which reduced a red-skinned people of an earlier culture into a few fragmented groups herded into impoverished reservations.”

― Martin Luther King Jr.

This is a time for new and revolutionary beginnings…

“Time is on the side of the oppressed today, it’s against the oppressor. Truth is on the side of the oppressed today, it’s against the oppressor. You don’t need anything else.”

― Malcolm X
