Jung believed that religion was a natural expression of the collective unconscious whilst Freud believed it was a collective neurosis.

It was September 23, 1939 when Sigmund Freud passed away at the age of 83. He died after a long and undefined debilitating struggle with cancer of the jaw. Freud had been suffering agonizing pain caused by an inoperable cancerous tumour in his eye socket and cheek. Over the period of the last 48 hours of his life, Freud was administered substantial morphine doses to sedate him and relieve his pain. However, from a pharmacological perspective, the timing of his death would not be consistent with a fatal dose of opioid. Freud most probably died a natural death.

Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961)

Jung was was 85 years old.

Jung had heart and circulatory troubles.

Freud and Jung differed over sex and religion.

Freud was obsessed by sex and Jung was obsessed by religion.

Dr. Jung died at the age of 85 in ZURICH, Switzerland, June 6, 1961–Professor Carl Gustav Jung, one of the founders of analytic psychology, died 6/6/61 at his villa in Kuessnacht on Lake Lucerne.

Freud’s most commonly debunked work has to be his theory of psychosexual development. In this framework, Freud postulated that all thoughts and emotions were rooted in innate sexual impulses. He stated that development took place in several stages: oral, anal, phallic, and latent stages.

Critics have accused Jung of metaphysical essentialism. His psychology, particularly his thoughts on spirit, lacked necessary scientific basis, making it mystical and based on subjective “truth.” Furthermore, they assert that his concept of archetypes are too vague to be studied systemically.

Religion is a belief in invisible gods, devils, angels, demons, heaven and hell. (Delusions)

Lyrics: There’s a saying going ’round and I begin to think it’s true It’s awful hard to love someone, when they don’t care ’bout you Once I had a lovin’ man, as good as many in this town But now I’m sad and lonely, for he’s gone and turned me down, now I ain’t got nobody and nobody cares for me I got the blues, the weary blues And I’m sad and lonely, won’t somebody come and take a chance with me? I’ll sing sweet love songs honey, all the time If you’ll come and be my sweet baby mine ‘Cause I ain’t got nobody, and nobody cares for me Won’t somebody go and find my man and bring him back to me It’s awful hard to be alone and without sympathy Once I was a loving gal, as good as any in this town But since my daddy left me, I’m a gal with her heart bowed down”

Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Smith was young when her parents died, and she and her six siblings survived by performing on street corners. She began touring and performed in a group that included Ma Rainey, and then went out on her own. Her successful recording career with Columbia Records began in 1923, but her performing career was cut short by a car crash that killed her at the age of 43.

Lucille Bogan – B.D. Woman’s Blues (1935)

“Comin’ a time, B.D. women they ain’t going to need no men,” sang Lucille Bogan in 1935. B.D. was short for bulldagger, the black slang term for a butch lesbian.

When you think of that rock n’ roll lyric, “You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog,” you probably think of Elvis — but Mama Thornton (pictured in a suit below) was the first to record it. The single was wildly successful, she sold over two million copies, but once “The King” recorded it, her version was quickly overshadowed. Another of her original songs, “Ball ‘n Chain,” was later made famous by Janis Joplin.

Thornton, often referred to as simply “Big Mama”, dressed in men’s clothing and, as any badass should, had little regard for other’s opinions when it came to her style. You go, Mama.

Big Mama Thornton died in 1984. That year, she was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame.

The song “I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom” was recorded by Robert Johnson during his first recording session on November 23, 1936 in San Antonio.

Dust my Broom

While “Dust My Broom” remained Elmore James’ signature song on stage and record, he also composed and/or popularized the enduring blues songs “The Sky Is Crying,” “The Sun Is Shining,” “Madison Blues,” and “Done Somebody Wrong.”

One of our greatest blues artists and composers, and most of us don’t even know his name. Listen to the original “The Sky Is Crying” from the composer. (Elmore James wrote the song). He passed away tragically when he was on the verge of the 60’s blues revival. Rock and blues owe him a great debt. Elmore James, King of the Slide Guitar: January 27, 1918 – May 24, 1963. He is missed.
