How many innocent people have ICE agents killed?

As of late September 2025, at least 100 people have died while in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

This number includes detainees who died from natural causes, injuries, suicide, and, in one instance, an attack on an ICE facility. News outlets, immigrant advocates, and some lawmakers have raised concerns about the growing death toll, pointing to increased detentions and conditions within facilities.

Key details about the deaths in 2025:

Total deaths: At least 16 people have died in ICE custody so far this year, which advocates note is a significant increase over previous years. The Marshall Project describes the first half of 2025 as the “deadliest six-month period for immigration detention since 2018”.

Case of external violence: One detainee, Norlan Guzman-Fuentes, died as a result of a sniper attack at a Dallas ICE facility in September. The shooter, who was not an ICE agent, died from a self-inflicted wound. Federal officials stated the shooter was targeting ICE agents, not detainees.

Other incidents: Other deaths this year have involved different circumstances. For example, in September, a 39-year-old former DACA recipient, Ismael Ayala-Uribe, died at a California hospital after being taken from an ICE processing center.

Many bodies are also believed to be unrecovered beneath the rubble.

Thousands were buried alive during attacks on Gaza. Sometimes workers, doctors, patients, neighbors and innocent bystanders were buried alive and bull-dozed over. What is claimed to be 70 thousand dead could easily be 170 thousand.
