Democratic Party presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has little to offer in the way of solutions to police brutality and racism, writes.
“Bernie assures us that he’ll “make sure that kids are in schools, and not in jails” which sounds an awful lot like he’s placing the burden of responsibility for police brutality on the individual being victimized–a right-wing talking point. A meaningfully “left” candidate ought to have used this time to talk about the cops themselves, the structural nature of the problem, and how racialized social control operates. It’s as if the real problem for Bernie Sanders was that on April 12, Freddie Gray (aka “Black suspect” in Bernie’s lingo, since he doesn’t mention Freddie Gray’s name once) wasn’t at school or work- not that he was arrested for walking while Black. Somehow Bernie managed to completely avoid talking meaningfully about police brutality, mass incarceration, the war on drugs, militarized policing and a broken judicial system while giving us his “thoughts” on Baltimore. Bernie has no answers for #BlackLivesMatter.”

People still drive around with peace sign stickers next to their Barack Obama bumper stickers, despite the doubling-down on George W. Bush‘s foreign and domestic policies.Democrats have successfully been able to make Republican policies cool. Never forget that Bernie Sanders voted for the Afghanistan war and supported Israel’s slaughter of Gaza in 2014. He can’t support universal health care for Americans and the bombing of hospitals in Gaza at the same time. Having principles is not the same as being a purist – politics is not a game.
Sanders not only defends military contracts that benefit his constituents in Vermont, he also joined the 100 to 0 vote in the Senate to give unalloyed moral and political support to the state of Israel during its most recent bombing campaign against Gaza.
More on the history of Bernie Sanders and militarism as well as his alliance with the Democratic Party:
STEPHANOPOULOS: So if you lose in this nomination fight, will you support the Democratic nominee?
SANDERS: Yes. I have in the past.

“Don’t let them talk you out of your power. They want you to think that you are powerless, that you have to go to the polls and vote for one of the Wall Street sponsored candidates.
1. We have 17 months and that’s it. Hillary has promised to attack Iran. Iran is backed by Russia and China, both armed with nuclear weapons
The American political left has elevated Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders to near godlike status. … The more often Sanders is accused of being a socialist by his political enemies on the Right, the more convinced the Left becomes that he surely walks on water.
Although Sanders may have once been a socialist back in the 80s when he was Mayor of Burlington, he is not a socialist today. Rather he is a technofascist disguised as a liberal, who backs all of Obama’s nasty wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen. He “supports the troops” by favoring all military spending bills. He stands behind all military contractors who bring jobs to Vermont. That’s his job as a senator, but it does not make him a socialist. (He is running as a Democrat and endorsing the Bush-Obama agenda abroad.)
The self-proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders has done little better. As left-wing Vermont writer Ron Jacobs noted, Senator Sanders has voted for “grants and loans to Israel, even after Israel bombed Gaza, attacked the Mavi Marmara and supported illegal settlements in the West Bank.” When asked by reporters for his view of the current war on Gaza, Sanders evaded the question, stating, “That’s not where my mind is right now.” https://thewordsmithcollection.wordpress.com/2015/02/15/bernie-sanders-many-not-be-as-progressive-as-you-think/
She has a plan for shutting down dozens of wars of choice, including the ongoing brutality in Gaza and the West Bank. It is way past time we got past the last five angry and militant men, and put a capable, professional woman (and distinguished physician) in the White House.
Dr. Jill Stein can provide the critical transition from exporting munitions, terror and war… to exporting knowledge, technology and medical and agricultural expertise… along with peace in our time.
Let’s allow her to help heal a nation in distress.
Stein was endorsed for President in 2012 by Noam Chomsky, a linguist, author and activist, and by Chris Hedges, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and war correspondent, among others. She is as real as it gets.”
